Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing

Game Description

Through a series of exercises, challenges, and games, students were taught typing. Their progress was immediately measured, dramatically increasing the feedback for the student.

EdTech Significance

Typing was an uncommon skill prior to computers. Many people knew how to type, but in many professions typing was performed by professional typists; especially, for organizations that required lots of documentation with very few errors. Mistakes were expensive because they were hard to correct, at least relative to just hitting a delete key.

Computers required typing, and programming required a much higher level of quality in the typing.

There was suddenly an expanding demand for typing skills, but a low supply of typists.

Typing classes had existed for decades, but Mavis Beacon allowed typists to learn at their own pace and at home.
